Student of the Year
Congratulations to our 5th grade students who competed for GES's Student of the Year for 2011-2012! They are from left to right: Joshua Taylor, Jeremiah Baloney, Drake Boudwin, Benjamin Poche, and Abby Dufresne. Special thanks to Rain Cii for providing us with three wonderful judges - Mr. Michael, Mr. Shyam, and Mr. Leon. Also, thanks goes to retired teacher, Mrs. Carolyn Scott, for helping to judge. The judges had a wonderful experience and were awed by our talented students. After much discussion and tallying of points, the judges selected Abby Dufresne to represent GES as "Student of the Year" for this school year. Abby now goes on to compete at the district level. We wish her all the best as she represents the Gators of Gramercy!
"Supper With Santa"
Santa took time out of his busy schedule on Tuesday, Dec. 20th to attend our annual "Supper With Santa" event. The evening began with a Christmas Concert under the direction of Mrs. Casaroti, our music teacher. The children's beautiful voices put everyone in a festive and holiday mood! After eating delicious chicken and andouille gumbo --- donated by Rain Cii and prepared by Kent Louque and crew --- parents and students rotated through 8 stations which included: making hot chocolate, writing a letter to Santa, preparing reindeer food, getting a tattoo, Christmas face painting, nail painting, making a snowman and a reindeer. Of course, the highlight of the evening was being able to take a picture with Santa! The evening was well attended and it was a very, special "family" outing for all! Special thanks to the employees of Rain Cii for giving of their time to cook and serve the gumbo dinner, and for donating all of the ingredients and paper products for the meal! We truly appreciate all of the support given to GES!
National Board Certified Teachers
Congratulations to Mrs. Shelly Roussel, 3rd grade ELA teacher, Mrs. Melissa Dufresne, 1st grade teacher, and Mrs. Kelly Martin, 5th grade Science & Social Studies teacher on becoming National Board Certified recently! We are very proud of them and all of our teachers who are working to "grow professionally" so that our students can have the best teachers at GES!!!
State Superintendent Visits GES
State Superintendent Ollie S. Tyler visited GES today! Along with her associate, Dr. Sharon, and literacy coordinator, Shenoah Webb, they toured our school to see literacy and technology implementation in full swing in order to help all of our students succeed academically. Our 6th grade girls received a "special treat" when Supt. Tyler met with them and spoke personally to them on setting goals and "not letting obstacles keep them from success" in life. Supt. Tyler was truly inspirational and inspired "hope and purpose" in our girls. Thank you!
"The Jungle Book Musical
On Tuesday, November 15, 2011, over 30 of our students entertained the public with GES's first ever musical performance - "The Jungle Book". Thanks to a grant from the River Region Arts & Humanities Council, Mrs. Casaroti was able to obtain the rights to the musical and all costumes for the children. The performance was enjoyed by a "standing room only" crowd on Tuesday evening and then again on Friday morning for our entire school family. The students practiced for several months and received assistance from many to make this opportunity a memorable one! Thanks to Ms. Machen and Mrs. Val for providing the beautiful scenery and backdrop! Thanks, too, to our faculty and staff, parents, school board, and community for the awesome support given during the months of preparation! Many compliments were given, including: "It was awesome!" "What a wonderful opportunity for the children!" "I wish more of our students can be exposed to the arts like this." "Mrs. Casaroti needs to be commended for her hard work and dedication to our students." "I loved it!" "We can't wait to see next year's musical!" Thanks again to all who work to make GES the BEST!
GES Salutes Veterans
On 11-11-11 our Gator Family gathered around our flag pole to salute and honor all Veterans. Members of the local VFW along with other guest Veterans joined us as we celebrated in the hopes of "giving back to those who gave so much for us to enjoy the freedoms we have today."

GES Teacher of the Year 2011-2012
Congratulations to Mrs. Vickie Weber on being named Gramercy Elementary's "Teacher of the Year" for the 2011-2012 school year! Mrs. Weber is our 4th grade Science and Social Studies teacher. She strives for excellence from her students as well as herself. We wish her all the best as she competes for "District Teacher of the Year"!
Gramercy Gator is a Hero
Gramercy Elementary has a “Hero” story to tell. Second grade student, Jakobe Joseph, is to be commended for his heroic act which saved our 38 year old school building, and possibly the lives of the people in it. He was using the restroom before class when he noticed smoke coming out of the light fixture. He kept a cool head and acted responsibly by going straight to Mrs. Dornier, the Principal, and Mr. Francios, the Assistant Principal, and reported, “There’s a fire coming from one of the lights in the boys’ bathroom.” As a result, the administrators and Mr. Duwayne Miller investigated and found smoke coming from a damaged light bulb. When asked by Mrs. Dornier about what made him come report what he saw, he answered a hero’s answer, “I didn’t want my school to burn down.” We are so proud of you, Jakobe. Thank you for saving our school!

Second Annual Gator Gala
It was a wonderful night under the lights of Gramercy Elementary’s second annual Gator Gala. Family and friends packed the auditorium at LHS as King Devin Johnson, his Queen LaKayla Washington, and the royal court were presented in high fashion to the audience. Members of the court were Duke Sloan Brignac and Maid Jordan Brignac, Duke Tre’ Stewart and Maid Dymond Reese, Duke Sincir Porter and Maid Joi Jones, and Duke Ceqwan Durst and Maid Anasija Green. The music and dance numbers that followed were prepared by the students and their teachers and provided entertainment “fit for a king.” Following the occasion, members of the court enjoyed a private reception at Gramercy Elementary, with live music provided by a local band. The Gala event was masterminded by faculty member Mrs. Abby Baker, who did an awesome job of bringing to completion her “Celebrating Louisiana” theme, which involved preparations that began months ago. Our Masters of Ceremony, Ms. Cherish Vicknair and Mr. Rob Logan did a “masterful” job of setting the tone of celebration on the stage. And of course, there are all the behind-the-scenes people who decorated, ran errands, and tied loose ends for us. Last, but surely not least, a special thanks to Lutcher High School for allowing us to use the facility there.
